Calhoun Community College Establishes Scholarship Fund
in Memory of Elizabeth Cheatham
Calhoun Community College today officially announced the establishment of a scholarship fund in memory of the late Elizabeth C. Cheatham, who taught computer information systems and office administration courses at the college. The announcement was made during a memorial service in her honor Friday at Calhoun’s Decatur campus, attended by over 200 college personnel, students and local residents.
Cheatham was a member of the Calhoun faculty for almost 25 years until her untimely death on Thursday, August 21, 2008, as the result of an aneurysm. “Her love for her students, dedication to education and infectious smile had a positive impact on everyone she touched, so we felt it was befitting to establish this scholarship to honor her memory,” commented Calhoun President Marilyn Beck.
According to the Calhoun Foundation, once the scholarship fund has reached the $25,000 level, it will become a perpetual scholarship with the ability to provide annual scholarship funds to deserving students attending Calhoun.
Anyone interested in contributing to the scholarship should contact Jennie Walts in the Calhoun Foundation Office at 256/306-2579 or by email at jlw@calhoun.edu. Checks may be sent directly to the Foundation and should be made payable to the Calhoun Foundation with the notation "For the Elizabeth Cheatham Scholarship"; mailing address P.O.
